Baltic Creative

The company was involved in a project to restore an old, fragile, exposed local Victorian brick warehouse in Baltic Triangle, Liverpool. This solution sought the use of novel restoration and stonework techniques in a non-standard building environment to refine the functional behaviour of the mortar and contribute to the drying out of the masonry and preserve the stone units. Masonry civil engineering heritage structures were typically built with lime mortars of hydraulic nature, ranging from feebly to eminently hydraulic. Both hydraulic and fat limes were used in civil engineering works. The company had to deduce the most effective composition of materials and restoration techniques at their own risk and expense.

Manchester Aquatics

Calvey originally started enabling works on Manchester Aquatics at the start of the project and subsequently became the go to contractor on site carrying out numerous different tasks on site from forming builders work openings to a large concrete repair project to the main swimming pool ring beam.

Works continued throughout the project finishing with the installation of a C5 Nonious Ceiling grid and bulkhead system to prevent corrosion due to the swimming pool environment to the newly refurbished training pool

Once completed the pool is now the home of GB Para Swimming Team.

Northwich Infirmary

Calvey where awarded the contract for the Restoration of the Verdin Ward and Verdin House at Northwich Infirmary which included a full strip of the existing slated roof, full timber repairs to any damaged or decayed areas.

All new lead works to flashings, valleys and any flat roof areas and full relay in natural slate to match the finish of the original roof.

Existing corroded metal Cupolas were removed and replicated off site in GRP and shipped back to site and lifted in to place via a crane lift once roof was finished.

All existing structural timber and timber cladding where repaired and subsequently decorated in a flexible system to enable the compensation of any future movement.

All inlayed render panels that had become loose or displaced were repaired including any underlying brickwork in a lime-based mortar and finally decorated

Halton

Calvey have carried out strip out and commercial fit out on Phases 1/2/3/4 at Halton hospital transforming old and tired wards and theatres into fully functioning spaces as required to modern NHS Standards

LMA Liverpool

Calvey have recently handed over a new project for LMA Liverpool.

The project commenced the end of July 2025 and handed over in September on time for the students to fully use. Works included transforming a disused retail space into various fully functioning spaces for a performing arts academy, from creating Podcast and TV Studios to Editing suites and Art spaces, works included :

Winsford Town Centre

Calvey were entrusted with the moving of 2 War Memorials of local importance at Winsford Town Centre due new town centre upgrades.

They consisted of Granite and Carrara Marble to the Boer War Memorial and Portland Stone and Bronze to the  First World War memorial.

They were carefully dismantled and stored on site fully protected including a purpose made crate to house the Boer War Carrara Marble Soldier.

Bronze plaques were shipped to a metal conservator, where cleaning and flattening was carried out and returned ready to fit.

Granite block pedestal for the Boer War Memorial and Portland Stone were lifted and rebuilt in the new position on site, the Soldier was crane lifted back into position and both memorials where carefully cleaned and repointed in time for the D Day Services.
